FAQ’s Chuchini Jungle Trinidad – All you need to know before you visit the Amazon Jungle
1. What do I need to bring when I visit Chuchini?
Insect repellent, sunscreen, light clothing in light colors (dark colours attract mosquitoes) and long sleeve, comfortable hiking shoes, towel, swimsuit and a camera.
2. What is the weather like in Chuchini?
There are only two seasons in the Bolivian Amazon, where Chuchini is located. We have the dry season, usually from July – November and the rainy season, when it floods which is usually from December – June. But due to the climate change, every year the change in seasons arrives later. The humidity and heat doesn’t change throughout the year and is always about 85% and 31°C / 87.8°F. In the dry season can come the ‘Sur’, the wind from Patagonia, the south. Then the temperature is usually min. 15°C / 59°F and max. 22 °C /71.6 59°F for 3 days.
3. Do you cater for vegetarians and vegans?
Yes, of course we do. (But here the locals eat one day rice with meat and the other day meat with rice). But of course, the variety of the food is bigger here in Chuchini.
4. What is the accommodation like?
As a tourist you have a private room with a private bathroom and a shower.
5. Can I conduct research/study at Chuchini?
Yes you can. We have two professionals here (Veterinary and Communications) that can help you with a lot of different academic and practical things. You can research, study or do an internship here in the following fields: Archaeology, Biodiversity, Medioambiente, Wildlife, Veterinary, Gastronomy, Ecology, etc. pp.

8. How do I get to Chuchini?
In the Dry Season: July – November:
- If you are a day visitor you can come by mototaxi (20-30 Bs.) or autotaxi (80-100 Bs.).
In the Rainy Season, during the floods: Mid December – End May:
- Thanks to the pre-columbian earth movers, Chuchini is always protected from the flood, because it is an artificial hill. In the rainy season (5-6 months) Chuchini is an island and you only have access by boat. A boat trip from the fisher village Loma Suarez to Chuchini – and back – costs 200-300 Bs (depends on the amount of the group).

From Santa Cruz by night bus (ITA Bus 100 – 150 Bs., the best at the moment), approx. 9 hours

10. How do you rehabilitate the animals at Chuchini?
First, we see if the animal is in physically good shape. We observe their behaviour and with time we change their diet to the type that they would find in their natural environment. The treatment is similar in all animals but it’s different per species. For an animal to be ready for release, it needs to be full-grown and in perfect health. For example, a coati that is 100% healthy needs to present good teeth and claws. The coati needs to be able to search for its own food, so we hide the food for them to find – mimicking how it would be in the wild. And the most important thing is, it needs to be “wild” to people, this mean that the animal needs to exhibit natural behaviour, it does not seek out or go close to people anymore. Once all of these criteria have been fulfilled the animal is ready to be released back into the wild.
