Chuchini: The Best Hidden Alternative to Rurrenabaque Madidi Pampas
Experience the authentic Bolivian Amazon. Located just 14 km from Trinidad, Chuchini is a family-run Private Protected Area dedicated to wildlife conservation and sustainable eco-tourism.
Mission & Vision
Our Mission: To protect and preserve 300 hectares of primary rainforest. We provide a vital sanctuary for Amazonian species, funded entirely by our visitors, volunteers, and donors without government assistance.
Our Vision: To lead Amazonian conservation by blending the ancient heritage of the Moxos civilization with modern environmental restoration, ensuring the Amazon thrives for future generations.
Our Story: A 50-Year Legacy
Founded in 1973 by Efrem Hinojosa Hieber and Rosario Garnica Suarez, Chuchini is a multi-generational sanctuary. Our founders recognized the critical need to protect this land, which is now a refuge for 391 bird species, 100 mammals, and over 700 caimans thriving in the Chuchini Lagoon.
What Makes the Chuchini Amazon Experience Unique?
Globally Recognized Private Protected Area: We are a formally recognized sanctuary, listed on the Official Protected Planet Database. Your stay directly supports habitat restoration and the Palmera Habitat initiative.
A Birdwatcher’s Paradise: With 391 documented species, Chuchini is a premier destination for ornithology. Track our latest sightings on the Official eBird Chuchini Hotspot.
Moxos Archaeological Wonders: Explore the “Lomas” and ancient hydraulic systems of the pre-Columbian Moxos Culture, located right here on our sanctuary grounds.
Solar-Powered Sustainability: Immerse yourself in nature within an eco-friendly lodge powered by a high-capacity solar system, balancing wild adventure with a zero-impact philosophy.
A Touch of Switzerland: Experience the Amazon with the added comfort of Swiss standards in organization, cleanliness, and hospitality provided by your host, Miriam.

Meet the Hosting Family
The People Behind the Sanctuary
Chuchini is more than a destination; it is our family home. Since 2014, the second generation—Efrem Hinojosa and his wife Miriam—have managed the reserve alongside their twins.
As the primary authors of the Chuchini Jungle Blog, Efrem and Miriam share their first-hand expertise on Amazonian biodiversity, off-grid living, and the Moxos archaeology that defines this region. By connecting our hosting family directly to our stories, we offer a level of authenticity and expertise you won’t find anywhere else.
